Royco, sorry, I must have overlooked your statement about conversion to the Roth IRA. Yes, in that case you will have to pay that tax. I have heard a lot of pro and cons on that Roth IRA lately. A lot of tax to pay upfront. And there is already that behind the scenes talk about the Roth IRA costing the Govt. too much. What happens if they say a cpl. of years down the road: "Sorry, can't do any longer but whatever you have in at this time will still earn taxfree". But with diminished money in that IRA the gain may not be that great. You better sit down and figure that out very carefully. I also heard in the meantime that this could put you in a higher taxbracket, depending on how much you have in there. Have fun looking at it again. I know I will not convert to a Roth IRA but you may benefit.

I also heard Joe B. talk about those interest rates and others also. They should drop those rates if they are now worried that business might slow down because of Asia. If they don't we will get a double whammy.
