It's interesting that when I first became interested in semiconductor related stocks I thought that fundamentally they were the kind of stocks investors could become completely enamored with and still have real value on a relative basis.

The SOX index today has changed so many component members over the years in what I assume is an effort to make it more likely to rise. And yet the SOX has never risen anywhere near its year 2000 peak.

I still like semiconductors and semiconductor related stocks for the same reason many here have been invested in MU the last couple of years. The stocks often offer an excellent value compared to most other sectors of the market.

But over the years I see more and more of the stocks having to become dividend payers just to generate institutional support. Of course we have more than a few of us who are buyers of the same stocks for those dividends as well.

It still comes down to a question of timing. Timing can be applied in many ways. I am thinking that if you only add to your INTC position for instance when it is paying more than a 4% dividend then you don't get to add to often.

That said when you add to it your chances of capital appreciation are higher as well. Nice gap up for the market today with some significant out performance for most of the stocks we follow here Don.

We also have two back to back 80% upside days but volume is too weak for a lasting rally in my opinion.
