when will Zen tape out Some zealots claim that Zen taped out last summer, but AMD's only statement that I know of was given in December and they said Zen will tapeout over then next few months. Those same AMD zealots claim that AMD was talking about the server version, but the statement was pretty clear and there was no mention of server. Either way there aren't even any rumors of working silicon. AMD was promising Zen revenue in 2016 but apparently that has changed to samples in 2016. No one knows much more than that. It is interesting to note that Intel's 72 core Knight's Landing is reported to be running in customer's systems on A-0 silicon, a remarkable feat considering it's incredible complexity. My guess is that Zen has not tapped out and will not for some time. To say a chip will tape out over the next few months really means "we don't have a clue". To say it will sample this year means "that's our story and we're sticking with it as long as the idiots will believe it". Both are a continuation of AMD's long established pattern of impossibly ridiculous schedules intended only for the gullible. Parts is Parts.
