Thanks for that post. I have been thinking about moving to a heartburn medication that is more effective than things like Rolaids and Zantac.

The manufacturer instructions for PPIs like Prilosec say they should only be used for 14 days, and to wait 4 months before taking another 14 days of treatment, but it appears many people take PPIs daily for years.

Heartburn or reflux needs to be dealt with one way or another. One of my friends recently died from cancer of the esophagus, probably caused by reflux.

There is a new treatment that involves exposing the esophagus sphincter area to radio frequency radiation, it thickens the tissue and can improve the sphincter action so stomach acids do not pass up into the esophagus.
