Russell Wayne's trends and
companies to look for in 1998:

1. Internet consolidation will accelerate. Not that long ago,
there were many browsers to choose from. Now, there are
only two. Similarly, who really needs all those search
engines?
2. While historically generous valuations continue, investors
will be increasingly cruel to companies that disappoint.
Look for negative earnings surprises to take an even
greater toll on stock prices in the new year.
3. According to Wayne, a known contrarian, the buys for
1998 will be SystemSoft, which dominates the market for
PCMCIA card software and is developing call-avoidance
software to ease the mounting problem of tech support.
The other is Oracle, a company that has sufficient
underpinnings to get past its problems.
