I agree Spec fossils are finite. But they will never get close to running out in our lifetimes. If oil is past tense Suncor would never have bought CNQ. Chevron Shell and Exon pay out big bucks to keep politicians on their side. They are still a powerful movement. And if oil stops there is nothing to replace it for industrial power near or mid term. The millions of trucks around the world cant do without fuel.
I do believe There will be scrubbers and carbon capturing systems. They are inventing them for future use because oil is not going away. If it was there would be no need for them. Wind power will never power planes or railroads.
100 years from now there may be other usable clean energy sources like Hydrogen (The cleanest of all, The exhaust is water. But it won't be in my investing lifetime.
