Of course not. Has someone suggested otherwise?

If he wanted to have some influence, he could nominate someone who was a little right-leaning and they would have a good chance of having hearings and even getting voted in. If he nominates another leftwing nutjob it is not going to happen.

Maybe what you're not comprehending is that this is a negotiation. In fact, you probably don't get that. McConnell is negotiating from a position of extreme strength; he started out with a strong negotiating position: "If you want something to happen here, you're going to have to make it extremely attractive."

I suspect Obama, who is an idiot when it comes to negotiation, will see it differently, as in, "You're strong, but I'm going to gain strength by attacking you politically as I've done in the past."

We'll see how that plays out. Obama could get a reasonable appointment through if that's what he wanted.
