Amazingly bad stuff all over, here in Chicago we've basically been snow free
all winter, while last year we almost broke the record for snowfall.....

I think maybe we should take this somewhere else though, GW, climate change
may not be welcomed here.

About whales in general, one theory is that whales migrate those huge distances to their birthing grounds just to avoid having babies near killer whales. Otherwise, that huge migration to warmer waters makes little sense (they more or less fast the whole time).

As you said, narwhals are one of the few species that don't migrate....instead opting to use the ice fields to avoid the killer whales. Maybe they will adapt or maybe their smaller size will prevent them from taking up a migration as well?

ANCHORAGE - Fur Rondy and Iditarod officials are working with the Alaska Railroad to send snow by rail from Fairbanks to Anchorage ahead of the ceremonial start of the Iditarod and the Running of the Reindeer event Saturday.

The unseasonably warm weather and lack of snow have caused officials to resort to shipping snow to the city. "We haven't had to do this before," said Fur Rondy executive director, Jeff Barney.
