didn't the serfs used to have a max tax of 25%? by that measure we are already worse off than serfs.

the reason it seems so much worse to me now is that i don't see where the production/growth will be coming from in the future. china? maybe. but they still have a command type political system. that will hold them back. our taxes and regs keep driving businesses offshore or killing them, and people are afraid to start new businesses with the government breathing down their neck. it has never been like this before. there needs to be increasing production to keep our standard of living rising. but the baltic dry is saying that probably won't be happening. i think we are going to get an inflationary depression. the worst of both worlds.

with the freedom we used to have, we were the economic engine of the world. but that's slipping away now. it is the increasing socialism that will drive in the final nail.

a rental property? yes, but as you said, they can take that away from you too. all we can really do is try to correct things. but it may already be too late.

that russian kgb defector had it right. he told us we'd be ok if we hung onto our morality. we obviously didn't.
