Paul,

I did not mean to imply that no problems ever existed in Intel/Sound Card combos. I was referring to only the specific problem of not being able to access the MIDI port. I do understand and agree with you about past compatibility problems, conflicts, etc with motherboards (Intel and others). The point that I would make here is that the P5GX-LG motherboard/Cyrix MediaGX 166 processor/Xpress Audio sound card/Xpress Graphics video card are not separate components but one integrated device. Their sales promos and specification sheets clearly lists a MIDI port. Since this is one integrated product with sound card and video card functions built into the MediaGX chip, I would think that a malfunctioning MIDI port on all the systems would have been discovered and corrected before the product came to market.
The thing is I really liked the system. The $499 price (monitor not included) for a new computer system was a real plus. It was noticeable faster than my 200mhz system. It booted Windows 95 very quiclky, the video performance was super, the footprint was small and so forth. However, its main use was to be in MIDI applications.

Live Long and Prosper,
