But you have valid points about the separation of church and state, and I agree that you should not have to subsidize the churches, even indirectly, but letting them be tax-free institutions. I think Mr. Jefferson, as we Virginians are wont to refer to him, would agree with this. But we know that tax exemptions and loopholes are the ways that governments pay back the money (to whatever exponential power) that supporters give them and their political parties. Can you say corruption? Don't get me started on our political situation!

I guess our only disagreement is where cultural heritage and religion (or actual religious practice) overlap. You are slightly to one side of the bell curve and I am on the other, but neither of us appears to be at either extreme.
