Al, I submit that there are other ways to cope with these crises that don't lead to other extreme responses...like a rejection of science, or intolerance, or divisiveness... Personally, I think the "extreme response" is to conclude that we're all a product of "random chance," because the implications thereof are scary. In any case, I never said there were no other ways to cope with these crises. I'm just addressing your contempt for those who choose faith in dealing with said crises and offering a rational defense. Besides, there is no reason to think that employing faith to deal with these crises leads to a "rejection of science, or intolerance, or divisiveness," unless you are already prejudiced against religion in the first place.
