LWD, AFFX may still be the ultimate winner in the chip sweepstakes but it is clear there will be stiff competitiion and bumps along the road. Patent litigation is one of the many bumps and Hyseq is iserious about its challenge. The AFFX patents are broad but it is unclear what the ultimate outcome will be. The AFFX chip is the most robust in terms of greatest number of data hybridized but they are expensive to produce and other technologies such as ink jet technology will clearly have a role in the future. I would continue to own a small AFFX position in my portfolio.
