But a line does exist. LBJ explicitly sent the racists packing by signing that bill. The Republican party welcomed them with open arms. The Republicans dump plenty of money from helicopters. They do it on the wealthy, but dump it they do.

I thought about this some more. Ok, let's assume that LBJ said what you claim. You seem to feel that signing that bill was a cynical move on LBJ's part. There is no reason to believe that LBJ thought blacks deserved to be second class citizens, in fact there is lots of evidence that the opposite was true. So where is the cynicism? Was it cynicism when the Republican party, starting with Nixon, courted and won the racists and white supremacists in this country? Or the evangelicals? Or the anti-immigrant crowd? Or are you claiming these are core Republican values?
