I think the tech has to have some value, assuming it works, in the most general sense, offering a service that allows a shopper to either photograph, say a dress, or chose an existing photo from pinterest etc and get to find the actual item in a store seems just the kind of thing people would go for.

BUT, given that the service has to be paid for (for SLC to make money), and the item (clothing say) comes from a specific brand (of which there are so many) and may be available from several suppliers, who pays for the service?

More specific applications will be easier to monetise perhaps.
