Have you asked your pediatrician what her(his?) thoughts are on the pacifier? SHe is using it to calm herself which is not bad, better than relying on you. Also if it becomes an issue between the two of you, your efforts to get rid of it will be doomed. Children have so little in their lives that they can control-when they find something that obviously bothers you, they use it! It needs to be her decision to give it up as much as possible. When is she three? Really, don't worry about it too much unless the dentist or ped. has some reason for it needing to be done now. It'll eventually go; trust me. Three's really still just a baby! You know you're doing a great job overall. Men do seem to take this cigar thing very seriously. Dan was given a humidor and there are these little tools and they had this discussion on the best way to smoke them. Man toys. (she smiles condescendingly)
