Thoughts on GPS in Russia . . .

The Washington Post recently reported that the Qualcomm technician arrested for espionage ran afoul of a Russian law that said that any survey information accurate to greater than 30 feet was a state secret. I can believe that.

Does anyone here remember that Trimble was supposed to be involved in surveying Russian agricultural land records? We haven't heard about that one lately . . . maybe they need it to an accuracy of greater than 30 feet.

The following article had a detailed description of the System deployed in Dubai.

DGPS Quayside: Container Handling in Dubai. David Goodfellow. September 1996, p. 54. GPS World.

Qualcomm has considerable information on their "Trailertracs" product at their site. I think container and cargo tracking along with all kinds of sensors (temperature, pilferage etc) will be very big users of GPS Technology.
