I just tried the same thing myself, using the process you describe. I don't have any problem accessing the disk.

My disk was originally formatted on a Mac, then I used a short format on the PC.

Not sure why you are having this problem, but it sounds as if the Zip drive is not recognizing the fact that a disk has been inserted. I think perhaps the problem is not related to the Mac/PC compatibility issue, but something with the drive itself, or perhaps that particular disk. Have you tried different Zip disks?

Perhaps some troubleshooting involving inserting and removing disks in the PC Zip drive is in order. Also, make sure you are using the latest Zip drivers, available on the Iomega website.
