NetTV confirmed reports it will introduce 27" PC/TV at $999 at CES , with formal launch later in first half. Product, which won't carry company's WorldVision brand, is powered by processor in "166 MHz range" and features 2nd-generation DVD-ROM drive, digital satellite TV tuner and wireless keyboard, Mktg. Dir. Andrew Christensen said. Closed system will have Windows 95 or Windows 98, depending on timing of launch, and is likely to be equipped with ports for Universal Serial Bus and IEEE 1394 connectivity, he said. Company is looking at bringing out 35-37" model in 3rd quarter. Christensen said tubes are being sourced from undisclosed OEM in Saudi Arabia, with product to be assembled at Fremont, Cal. Following luke-warm response among consumers, NetTV shifted focus of WorldVision line to education and presentation markets, although 27" entry-level model featuring 166 MHz MMX CPU ($2,699) is available at ElekTek and other stores (TVD Oct 6 p9). Christensen suggested renewed effort in consumer channel with sub-$1,000 product would depend largely on retailers -- "they weren't too enthusiastic about the category before."
