They have been addressing this for some time with their co-branding agreements.

They need to nuke Nomai.

Qualitative only. And yes I do have a life outside haunting computer stores!

Fry's, Fremont CA: What a zoo!
one aisle labeled 'floppies and zips' (cartridges)
Syquest EZ230s stacked up toward front, about 10.
Zip drives, including refurbished, in separate aisle. Lots.

CompUSA, Emeryville CA:
at the Mac 'store within a store': zips only. Sections still labeled Syquest filled with zips. Saw no Jaz. No price labels - not uncommon in CompUSA. In the 'regular' part of the store, numerous Zips, SCSI/Parallel. Separate display of EZ230s (maybe 10) located somewhat outside of the removable storage area. Had the opportunity to explain to several customers what zips were. One lady wanted to know if the Syquest cartridges would play in a zip. I said no. She walked off with a Zip drive. Left without finding the thing I had come to buy, but was stopped and examined anyway by the guard.

Egghead, Berkeley CA:
my first SparQ sighting. Four on a shelf. The same dusty LS-120s seemed to be there as last month... No Sharks in sight. Only one Jaz drive, in an inaccessible glass case. A number of zips. The clerk said the SparQ had just come in and was selling very well. The SparQ was sitting next to EZ230 and SyJet, all seemingly the same price ($200). The clerk said the price of the EZ230 had actually come down to $169. SparQ media was, as we know, much cheaper than Jaz carts. I think the SparQ will be appealing to people with 1GB drives who don't care about compatibility with Jaz. It might be too late to break into the high-end multimedia area, but I'm not sure about that. Zip and Jaz displaced earlier Syquest products in the multimedia scene very quickly. I feel more certain that SparQ will cannibalize EZ230 & SyJet sales. And as always, much will depend on what the sales clerk of the moment happens to say. Hopefully the buyers will read ZDNet first!

Zead & All,

Is anyone else having trouble with S.I. today? My posts are not getting listed and it looks like the threads have not been updated.
