Stuart and June: I agree with you both, but do you feel that using phone lines is the answer here. Phone circuits in all areas of the country have been burdened by the increased use of computers from the home. Can you imagine how it would be if a utl. co. was reading thousands of meters hourly. Not to mention, the use of ones' phone line to read meters. I remember the party lines of the past, when the line is in use, no calls in or out. Not on my phone line!!! The increased competition from cos. such as Cellnet that uses their own wireless network seems to me a much better way to the future than existing phone lines. Schlumberger also has agreements with them.
