That's the thing that separates you conservatives from we liberals. You lack compassion and empathy. Compassion and empathy are the foundation of civilization. In days past a person with your attitude, unwilling to share or help the tribe would have been banished from the tribe to live in the wilderness alone. You would not have lasted long without the support of the tribe. Nor would you last long today. A civilized society takes care of its citizens. We are all different, some are born very smart and some are born not so smart, some have a rough time when they are young, and some are disabled. How we take care of those "in the spring of life, in the winter of life and those who live in the shadows of life, is what defines our validity as a human being. You seem completely oblivious to the protection your society affords you. You seem oblivious to your responsibilities to your society. Before we had democracy and the rule of law life was terrible. Dictators regulary abused the peasants, and treated them brutally; they could whisk you away in the middle of the night and you were never heard from again. That is why our founding fathers established habeas corpus as one of the very first things when they developed this country. You have no understanding it seems of the relationship between the individual and the society you live in. Nor how much you depend on society to provide you with clean water, clean food, protection from those that would hurt you and help when you are in dire need. It is government that provides you with protection of all the things that could harm you, it was government that put together emergency medical services systems that one day may save your life when you have a heart attack or are injured by dialing 911. Before we had sophisticated social services people were to often destitute and usually through no fault of their own.. I found it interesting how John Kasich today talked about how his dad was a coal miner, but at the end of the day the owners of the coal mine would cheat him out of half of what he had produced for the day and he had nowhere to turn to. Yet John Kasich is against unions which changed everything when they started protecting the worker. That is a sort of illogical thinking we find in the Republican Party. It seems like they never have a come to Jesus moment until something close to them happens like Cheney's daughter being gay or Nancy Reagan's husband getting Alzheimer's. That is why we liberals must prevail because the society which you would structure would be a horrendous place to live. A society without compassion and sensitivity, empathy and laughter, where people live in fear and misery is not the type of society I want for the worlds children.
