"Green and Gold with a big G on it..."

My little brother & family moved to Green Bay this year, after a stint in Nawf Calina (both grew up in Wisconsin, but further south). My sister-in-law was complaining about how everything there was green and gold, even the Christmas lights.

On the other hand, my little brother got one share of Packer stock as part of some kind of holiday package.... Maybe more satisfaction value then the COMS I get....

Dick

The premiere showcase for software and hardware vendors supporting the Mac OS platform, MACWORLD Expo will be held at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco, Jan. 6 - 9.

The new Macworld/Pro conference offers advanced educational content to MACWORLD Expo's general conference. Macworld/Pro kicks off with pre-conference workshops on Jan. 5 and continues with a two-day conference Jan. 6 - 7.

MACWORLD Expo Keynotes

MACWORLD Expo kicks off with three back-to-back keynotes, the first of which will be delivered by Apple Computer's interim CEO Steve Jobs. All of the MACWORLD Expo keynotes will be held in the Yerba Buena Ballroom of the San Francisco Marriott Hotel.

As announced earlier, Jobs will deliver the MACWORLD Expo opening keynote from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Jan. 6.

Following Job's opening keynote, cyberartisan and technology visionary Kai Krause of MetaCreations hosts "A FireWireside Chat with Kai and Friends," at 10:15 a.m. Krause and several prominent colleagues and industry leaders will discuss the conversion of the Web, television and computers.

Now that computers have video, televisions have computers and the Web moves, where is everything headed? Attendees will learn in this session that's sure to bring about spirited debate.

The third MACWORLD Expo keynote, "AppleMasters, Forward Thinkers and World-Changers," is at 11:45 a.m. and features extraordinary people - artists, athletes, scientists, educators, designers, writers, producers, architects, musicians, to name a few - who use the Macintosh to make the world a better place.

Among a few of the AppleMasters in this keynote include: Author and Fantasist Douglas Adams, Legendary Olympian and World Heavyweight Champion Boxer Muhammad Ali, Physicist and Nobel Prize Winner Dr. Donald Glaser, Dancer/Actor/Director Gregory Hines, Actress Jennifer Jason Leigh, Video Animator Jim Ludtke and Video Broadcast Designer Harry Marks.

Each will demonstrate firsthand how they use Apple technology in their creative lives. For further details on these and other AppleMasters, visit the Web site at www.applemasters.apple.com

Macworld/Pro Keynotes

Prior to the official start of MACWORLD Expo, Mac Webmasters, managers and Internet professionals will gather for a brand new technical conference, Macworld/Pro. The conference runs Jan. 5 - 7. The Macworld/Pro lineup for Tuesday, Jan. 6 and Wednesday, Jan. 7 includes Wall Street Journal reporter and author Jim Carlton, Macintosh industry veteran Scott Knaster of Microsoft and Colin Crawford, CEO of Mac Publishing, LLC , a joint venture between IDG and Ziff-Davis.

Macworld/Pro speaker Jim Carlton, a Wall Street Journal reporter and author of the book, "Apple: The Inside Story of Intrigues, Egomania and Business Blunders," will take attendees inside the minds of key Apple executives and explain in detail key business decisions that were turning points for Apple to date.

Attendees of Carlton's session - which will be held from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Wed., Jan. 7 - will gain first-hand knowledge of the heroes and villains of Apple's strategy and technology initiatives over the past decade and what signposts remain to signify a healthy Apple.

From 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Tues., Jan. 6, Macintosh industry veteran Scott Knaster presents his vision for a Mac-Internet world. Drawing on his work with Apple, ACI US, General Magic and, presently, Microsoft's MS-Bay team, Knaster presents a historical look at Mac Internet technology and the development of the promise of next generation Internet environments for Mac users.

Knaster's discussion will offer demonstrations and analysis of the Mac's unique benefits for Macintosh professionals and users alike.

The keynote portion of Macworld/Pro closes on Wed., Jan. 7 from 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. with a look into the future of Macintosh technology from the unique vantage point of Colin Crawford, one of the key movers and shakers in the Macintosh industry. Crawford adds closing notes to the Macworld/Pro conference as he presents how Apple and the Macintosh platform are positioned to make significant contributions to the computer industry as we approach the new century.

"We are pleased to offer such a diverse - and incredibly strong - range of speakers at this year's MACWORLD Expo," said David B. Egan, president of IDG Expo Management Co. "Attendees of the keynote sessions for the show and its new technical conference will gain first-hand insight and understanding that will help them make informed purchasing decisions and better understand Apple's role in a dynamic marketplace."

Attendees may register for any of the keynote sessions on-site beginning Jan. 4. Keynotes are open to conference attendees, analysts and press only and are on a first-come, first-served basis.
