when Ho Chi Minh first sought independence from France, he modeled the Vietnamese Declaration of Independence on ours, and even asked for support from the US. We backed France and their puppet regime, then France left us holding the bag.... millions would not have died if we didn't come in and escalate the situation. we blew it there, repeatedly. if you haven't been to Vietnam, go, it's a great place full of fantastic people. No one there cares about the war, the vast majority of Vietnamese were born after it was over.
