That's exactly what I've always thought... to the point.
But I've began to consider alternatives recently... since 2008 pressures are changing the landscape

Many companies are now sitting on serious cash hoards due to the lay-offs and increased productivity
Some investing concepts need to be re-looked at and aren't working the same way
John points some out here fairly often

Take fore instance Canada has recently sold off all of its gold.
This might be in preparation to move into an electronic currency.
It also might mean they're basically broke and need the money.
Might mean they no longer consider it a store of wealth

The collapse of yield in the government bond markets... plus the US FED needing to raise interest rates in this country point to a period of dislocation and trouble over the next 9 months.
