The obvious "short" explanation is that 1) there are now upwards of 2000 equity mutual funds (and probably an equal number of Vinik wannabees) so you should expect some institutional participation in any stock that has more than 1 billion market cap,
2) the charts on YHOO may still be indicating a buy hence avoiding the need for funnymentals, 3) year-end window dressing and herding.
There is also the unlikely possibility that YHOO is the salvation of mankind, and the shorts have been dead-wrong about it. Peter, somehow your not having a long position in YHOO takes away from the joy of shorting it! <g>
