December 29, 1997 (TAIPEI) -- The total market share of world's Top 10 notebook suppliers rose to 72.2 percent in the first quarter of 1997, up from 68.3 percent in 1996 and 64.2 percent in 1995.

In the global notebook PC market, Toshiba Corp., IBM Corp., Texas Instruments Inc., Fujitsu ICL Computers Ltd., Dell Computer Corp. and Sharp Corp. all achieved high growth rates in 1996. Notably, Fujitsu ICL grew 100 percent and Sharp grew 200 percent.

The concentration of customers around the 10 firms indicates that well-positioned large OEM firms have tremendous potential for business growth.
