South Korea to Let Banks Fire Workers, Easing Takeovers

South Korea said it will let its banks dismiss large numbers of employees, removing a key obstacle to acquisitions by foreign rivals. The move comes as Korean banks struggle for survival under the weight of some 15,000 bankruptcies this year and billions of dollars in loans that turned sour.

How many bankruptcies?!

And yet some korean stocks were the biggest NYSE gainers.
