George,
I'm sorry but once again I have to jump all over someone for saying these guy are incompetent. What gave it away, the fact that in only 5 yrs the "incompetent "mgmnt took the company from small startup to a MAJOR player in networking. The fact that they are the one company in networking that scares CSCO, or is it the way they positioned this company as an end to end internet ifrastructure company( the highest growth area in networking). I guess it was all a happy accident. Going into the cascade merger the big debate was that Ascends "excellent" mgmnt team would be stretched to thin over cascade. Many analyst were saying Ascend had one of the best mgmnt teams of any networking company. 0-1 billon in sales in 5 yrs. I'll tell you what if present mgmnt left I would sell the stock.

I find the possibility that ASND mgt. was not culpable somewhat frightening because
it implies to me that they are quite incompetent at running a high tehnology business.

George,

Let's preface this with the brief being anti management.

The high tech business has a lot of variables. Time to market is very important. Management could have been criticized had they held up a product that did work properly. It is kind of a "crap shoot".

I recall the USRX I was a shareholder) rollout of the x2 modem. Shipment was delayed and management was heavily criticized for the delay. Their response was they would only ship a reliable product. On the other hand, ROK shipped chips that clearly did not work in their rush to market. They were criticized too. Which management was better?
