Asia 7% Japan 18%

versus XLNX's 4% Asia and 11% Japan
and LSCC's 18% Asia and 9% Japan

XLNX will be affected the least by the Asian mess

Roland; The responses you have gotten to your Asian exposure
questions are in line with what I have read. As mentioned, Altera
has significant sales in Japan. I have always found
that interesting as Japan is known for higher volume type
products than you usually find using FPGAs and CPLDs. More
than likely the consumption is in prototyping and early versions
of products. If that is the case, effects should be minimized.

It seems like most folks are focused on the demand side of the
Asian situation - a potential drop in sales to the region.
However, I think the bigger story is on the supply side - all
the raw materials that come from Asia that will be lower in
cost thus improving margins. Seems to me that the higher margins
ON ALL SALES will be more beneficial than the single digit loss
of top line sales will be detrimental.

Altera does seem to be at an attractive level on a short and
long term basis. I have a long standing long position in the
stock. I also have recently wrote Feb 35 Puts @ $4. Looking
for a quick profit on those when the market gets a lift early next
year with the typical buying spurt and/or Asia situation
stabilizes - which is happening even today.

Regards,

Matthew

Roland-
From my post on 23 Dec. on the XLNX thread:

"XLNX gets 2% of its revenue from Korea and its sales are spread across sectors.ALTR derives about 4% of sales from South Korea"
