Regarding management: I was listening to a couple of the Wall Street Week podcasts with Carl Icahn and Bob Olstein, and found what they said interesting.

Olstein discussed an experience early on in his career, where management lied to him about their earnings and he got burned. Icahn mentioned he likes seeing management increasing share buybacks or dividends.

I say this to agree with what you said. I think listening to management can be dangerous, and seeing positive actions like paying off debt early or increasing shareholder value could be signs of trustworthy management.

Thanks for the book recommendation, I look forward to reading.
