I've voiced the same sentiment to other Canadians who must dream of being US citizens based on their obsession with American politics. gg cox, land shark, Alistair something or other are some of them.

There's a Canadian political thread on SI and I've never posted to it. Posting an opinion about Canadian politics (I have none) would seem weird to me. And I think its weird for foreigners to inject themselves into our politics.

There are a lot of things I can’t imagine you doing. Getting an education at a foreign university is only one of them. For you to tell me what I am allowed to be concerned about or interested in is really quite absurd and over the top. Everything the United States does affects my life in every way from the value of my currency to my safety when travelling and living in the U.S. To suggest that only people who vote should have an interest (or any skin in the game) when it comes to the outcome is to show an abysmal lack of perspective and an appalling lack of focus. You may live on an anthill. The rest of us do not. Yeah yeah yeah--get mad and implode...

The United States is the biggest economy in the world. And you have about 1000 military bases around the planet covering some 30 MILLION acres of land. Don’t tell me it is none of my business!

Everything your government does has an impact. AND…as Canada is your biggest trading partner, we are extremely interested in who runs the show down there. For instance, a Bernie Sanders running things would be devastating to our economy. You pretend that only voters can have opinions or persuade or guide or offer reasoned discourse and judgement? But that is presumptuous. And frankly, quite ridiculous. I doubt very much that getting a voting card equates to a boost in IQ.

That attitude you display affects the treatment I receive—indeed my very safety—everywhere I travel in the world. Because, unfortunately for me--I look just like you…and I dress just like you.

I joined SI 20 years ago with the encouragement to follow my interests whether or not I owned a particular stock and whether or not I was a member of a particular group. Maybe you don’t post on other sites. Who knows? But my interests reach all around the globe.

And I am sure of one thing: I would not require ID papers from you to validate your right to post about Canadian politics. Or Canadian beer. Or Canadian Fishing Resorts. NO DAMN WAY! Hell, did you know that Canadians and Americans even intermarry??! Crazy eh?? The world is really going all to Hell! ;-)
