"Let's study the scriptures on that one. IT is interesting." You say "The Romans killed Jesus, and we have never blamed them for a moment." The Jews never blamed the Romans for the death of Jesus because they are the ones that would have killed him if the prevailing law would have permitted. (Which by the way they already did in their hearts) .They told Pilate that Christ's blood would be upon them and their children. Something that echoes down through the corridors of history. You say "The Jewish high priest arranged for Jesus's death because if you didn't worship Caesar in all the Roman Empire you were annialated by Caesar's army after word reached him, as Caesar had been pronounced God of the Earth sometime before that by another dead Caesar." Let's look at this real closely John 11:49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all. :50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not: :51 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; :52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. Look at the picture here, the spirit of prophesy is telling them they know knothing at all. It didn't say they know very little, or that they were lacking only one point or concept, but Ye know nothing at all. What? You mean to tell me not even the high priest (and this spake he not of himself). knew anything at all? God is here revealing that unless Jesus dies the whole nation was going to perish because of their sins, there would be no sparing for the sake of the remnant because without blood there is no remission of sins. It's always for the remants sake throughout history that God spares. He would have even spared two cities (Sodom and Gomorrah) if only ten righteous had been found. God is telling them that He plans, by Jesus, to gather in one the children of God that were scattered abroad. This of course presented a direct threat to them especially in light of the following passages from Isaiah where He talks about drawing all peoples. 56:8 The Lord God, which gathereth the outcast of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, besides those that are gathered unto him. Right after He says this about drawing people he makes this statement about Israel's leaders. 56:10 His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. :11 Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand; they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter After the high priest prophesied these things these men should have had the sense to fall down with theirs faces in the dirt , repent and given God reverence, but the scriptures say: John 11:53 Then from that day forth they took councel together for to put him to death. You say "As we know,, he was picked up at midnight and whisked away and kept by Roman soldiers for the rest of the time." The scriptures makes plain that he was led to the high priest's palace, along with the chief priests, scribes, elders, and all the counsel for the express purpose of finding fault. Then they could bring him to Pilate with enough accusations to warrant the death penalty. A true believer understands that the real reason that the high priest wanted Jesus dead was because he was not a child of Abraham but rather was full of the spirit of anti-Christ and was only following his father the devil's desires. -Chris
