Did 90% of the Consumers "know" that they did not need it
or "think" that they did not need it. My point in this example
was that the Consumer is not that informed especially in certain
areas. Also I think you mean 90% of people who bought the SX
and not 90% of the Consumers who bought a System. My point was that
Intel knew it was a "crippled" system. I also believe that a lot
of people now realize that if they buy a System now that new
Software not to mention nre Hardware can make it obsolete in less
than a year fo some if not all applications. Therefore there are a
lot of Publications that will give you the Basic System that will
say still be applicable for the next 18 months and a lot of people
will want to insure this. Would you buy a "crippled" system
knowing it would be obsolete when you went to use that
Spreadsheet. Are you telling me that Compaq and Dell etc didnt
make an SX?

No, there is nothing wrong with selling a System for a particular
enabling application as long as you specify that.If you but a Game
and it says Pentium required One doesnt buy it for the 386.Or
PCI etc if one doesnt have a PCI etc. I dont remember seeing any
Warnings etc in any of the Brand name Computer stores that the
SX was only enabled for certain applications. The problem is
Customer awareness. Buying a "crippled" System is a little
different then say buying a New Car that has some Function that
is only present on the more expensive models that doesnt affect
its performance. Again you are assuming that all Consumers are
informed and Technically Oriented.
