Hal: I forgot that DSC has 6 Million DLC lines installed in the US. That was 6 months ago, depending on the BA installs, it could be higher. Since Lucent has 25 millions lines of the SLC-96, SLC-5 and SLC-2000, I'll assume that the SLC-5/SLC-2000 has over 6 million lines but < 25million lines.... until later.

Westell's Marc Hafner, senior vice president, business development global alliances, added, "Given that there are 25 millions lines off of Lucent's SLC systems in networks across the country, incorporating the DSL capability into the SLC opens the availability of high speed data services to a huge customer set."

... With more than 6 million lines of Litespan deployed in the United States, the "in plant" ADSL solution is expected to make a significant positive impact in the rapid deployment of advanced broadband services over existing infrastructure....

Hal: >> Lucent is not used in BA territory for NGDLC, only DSC for NGDLC systems. BA has the old Series 5 and SLC 96 equipment from AT&T that does not work with RADSL. <<

I've located another URL that supports that BA is using the SLC-2000 system:

ba.com

... ARLINGTON, VA. -- Bell Atlantic Corp. [NYSE: BEL] has selected Lucent Technologies Inc. [NYSE: LU] as a supplier of key
network components for Bell Atlantic's initial Full Service Network deployment in the mid-Atlantic region. Bell Atlantic's investment
under the contract could reach several hundred million dollars over a six-and-one-half-year period
....

...The fiber-to-the-curb architecture that Bell Atlantic will build is the next step in the company's ongoing, aggressive network modernization program. Bell Atlantic's network infrastructure includes digital switching covering more than 90 percent of the company's service area, as well as widely available advanced calling features and high-speed data communications services such as ISDN [Integrated Services Digital Network].....

... Lucent Technologies will provide the SLC*-2000 Access System with FLX** Switched Digital Video. This system includes voice, data, video and power components provided by Lucent Technologies and BroadBand Technologies....

Hal: >> Granted that is hearsay, but you may want to check it out with your friend. The 5ESS 2000 is Lucent's NGDLC system. <<

The 5ESS-2000 ISN'T Lucent's NGDLC system. I'm trying to make a point about the need for URL's. I didn't provide a URL to the 5ESS-2000/NGDLC theory and someone should have questioned that point, but didn't. I still contend that BA is using the LU/BBTK SDV solution and that Westell's solution will be included:

....Similar DSL capabilities, using Westell's SuperVision Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM), can be incorporated into Lucent's Switched Digital Broadband Access System (SDBAS), a fiber-to-the-curb platform developed jointly with BroadBand Technologies....
