Bone remodeling is quite plastic and dynamic.

If bone resorption did not occur during orthodontic treatment, there would be no possibility of re-positioning the orientation of the teeth. As bone resorbs in the areas where the tooth is pressuring the bone, it rebuilds in gap areas where the tooth. But this is why the pressure into realignment has to constant yet can't happen faster than the bone remodeling process.

This process can be interfered with by infection, is slower as a person ages, and can fail to occur if the bone is too far in proximity from the adjoining bone. The horror process of lengthening a bone requires it being cut, with the cut ends moved apart slightly and stabilized with a fixator. When the tibia is healed the process is repeated repeated until the target length is achieved.

This is only slightly different from the healing process when I broke my ankle. The bones were held in perfect alignment and close proximity with titanium screws and plates. Within two years the bone is not only healed, it has grown over the plates and screws and resorbed where there's excess stress. Just to help the process along I injected human growth hormone during the recovery process.

I would assume the LED device is merely placebo in reducing pain, but there's always things I don't know.
