But the US looks great now especially in comparison to the rest of the world. A possible boomerang effect is a concern but it's not wise for the Fed to advertize.
The Fed already abandoned wisdom years ago when they kept interest rates low even as the economy recovered. It's too late now for them to reverse course.

For them to be this concerned about spooking the markets says a lot about how they've abdicated their dual mandates in favor of keeping policy bubbles inflated. And for what? Just so we can pass the buck to the next president, whether it be Clinton, Sanders, or Trump?
