<Hmmm. Looks like a crash from 19 to me.>

Mike,

It looks like a crash from the $80's, if you go back to when the Kahn ran the company. Point is, it's as futile to look at the past as it is to try to make some old DOS software function properly in Windows 95.

Just like any other company, investors are looking ahead and trying to value Borland. One idea that's not been mentioned here, I believe, is the performance of Informix. Looking at where that stock is at, is it unreasonable to think that maybe Borland could even backslide to 5? I would say it would be possible, except that Informix's foundation is the database, whereas Borland is getting more involved with internet technologies. However, a lot of people were caught off-guard with Informix's little earnings "surprises" over the last few months, so the best thing Borland can do to retain credibility is to state earnings conservatively. I and many others love their software, but the last thing a shareholder needs to see is fake earnings. If Borland's doing great business, that's wonderful, but if they are not, I'd rather be told upfront about it so I can decide for myself if their stock is worth holding.

At the risk of guessing, I think the VSGN deal plus an overall lack of interest in database companies (which Borland gets lumped in with) is 95% of the reason for the current depressed stock price. There might be some portfolio adjusting going on, but I bet it's not really significant.

Regards,
Dave
