Acampora Names 10 'January Effect' Candidates

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Ralph Acampora, director of technical
research at Prudential Securities Inc., has provided a list of 10
companies whose stocks may get a boost from "January effect"
trading, according to a contact at the brokerage firm.

The companies are Smith International Inc. (SII), EVI Inc. (EVI), Intel
Corp. (INTC), Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW), Applied Materials
Inc. (AMAT), Lam Research Corp. (LRCX), FMC Corp. (FMC),
Unisys Corp. (UIS), Chevron Corp. (CHV), and Nucor Corp.
(NUE).

The January effect describes a seasonal rally in which investors
position their portfolios by buying stocks that underperformed the
market recently.
