Let me know when they materially reduce fossil fuel consumption. China increased its coal mining by nearly half over the ten years ended 2010. To them, it represents economic progress. They aren't even thinking about slowing down, and they are not exporting it. They're burning it.

It is true they spent a lot on hydro lately but that is a matter of convenience, not some interest in clean power. For as long as you an I live China will burn ever ounce of fossil fuel it can get, from whatever sources it can. Because they fully comprehend that fossil fuel is the key to their economic growth. India, same thing.

I've just begun reading a one volume history of China. China claims to have the longest history of continuous civilization of any civilization, lasting anywhere from 3000 to 6000 years. All of the 5 great historical dynasties of China lasted longer than America has, so far.
