A spokesman said the IMF board had approved the payment after a meeting lasting several hours. The money, originally due to have been paid some time next year, is part of a record-breaking $60 billion international rescue package. Commercial and investment banks are also contributing to the rescue deal. Banking sources say they will roll over billions of dollars of short-term debt. Analysts said central, commercial and investment bankers around the world have shown determination to save South Korea from default, but have not yet shown how this will be done, partly because global lenders were still adding up the Asian nation's foreign exposure. U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers said promises of financial help should get South Korea's economy growing again, but Korea and the financial community have much more to do to stem the crisis. "They've got a great deal to do and, of course, there is a great deal that the financial community can do in responding to this situation," Summers told the Fox News channel. "There's a lot of work ahead in South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand." ------------------------- LATEST NEWS ------------------------- * Still great deal to do on S.
