PPI also increase the risk of bone fractures in females and the elderly. The scenario is that the elderly are filled with drugs that finally ruin their guts, and give them constant heartburn and constipation. They take drugs, ppi, to help them with that, and over time their bone mass decreases and they are prone to fractures, particularly of the hips, legs, and pelvis. Once they fall, (or the hip stress fractures, and they fall) it's emoticon city. Give 'em a sad face and forget 'em, as they are done. This could easily happen to people close to you. Doctors go for the quick cure... Be aware of the risks of PPI. But remember you are fighting an uphill battle with your loved one/patient. They just want to stop the gut pain.
