LAPEER COUNTY, Mich. ( WJRT) – An 11-year-old girl in Michigan scared away two people trying to break into her home with a shotgun, the local sheriff’s office says.

The scary situation unfolded Friday night on Five Lakes Road in North Branch Township east of Flint.

Deputies say the girl was home alone when she heard a knock at the door. Moments later she heard a knock on a different door.

When she didn’t open either of the doors, deputies say 53-year-old James Wasson broke into the home.

Deputies said the girl then locked herself in a bathroom closet with a shot gun.

When Wasson got all the way inside the house the girl pointed the gun at him, ultimately scaring him away.

A short time later, Wasson and 31-year-old Rhonda Steward were arrested in Imlay City in connection to the break-in.

Wasson and Steward are both from Detroit.

A judge formally charged the pair on Monday.

The 11-year-old was not hurt.
