I still think semi group speculative appeal is high due to the groups business be slow or declining.


There are many cost savings to be found in redundant positions when companies the size of INTC and ALTR get together. I was struck by the size of their downsizing staff moves, not that they were making the moves. Cutting over 10% of the workforce is a major undertaking and even though it's easy to point the finger at declining PC sales, it's not like the declines are creeping up on anyone.

Plenty of worthy targets to be had at the right price and like you stated, VSH could be on either side of the transaction. Stagnant top line and declining bottom line (at least for the past couple of years) would strongly suggest they should consider making changes of one form or another. Roughly $3 or $4/share in cash would help finance the deal if they were being acquired. I have no idea what premium they would or could ask?
