Robert, thanks for letting me know that Yahoo shows ex-div dates. Of course, I hate using Yahoo, as I'm short the stock.

UNP went ex-div this month, so it's safe to short now and in January. Many stocks seem to move a day or two before earnings are released, in anticipation, so it might be a good idea to short UNP a week ahead of time. Of course, I have seen some companies warn a 2nd time (!), after determining that analysts didn't take the first warning seriously enough. With UNP climbing now, anything is possible, so it might not hurt to short the stock now and hold it until earnings are released January 22.

If I'm not bankrupted before then by my Yahoo short, I might want to give UNP a play.
