xPoint has a long road ahead, if it can ever get into production. If it does reach production, Intel will need to sell it below cost to gain market share. It is expected to be less expensive than DRAM, and more expensive than NAND. It is really more of a DRAM replacement than a NAND replacement.

One can argue that the durability of xPoint versus NAND is worth the extra cost, but the replacement cycle on SSD's is already less than their limited life, so its really a mute point. xPoint's entree as a NAND replacement will be limited to high performance applications.
