Nice Gish gallop. Why are you so quick to assume nothing happened even tho we didn't do anything? In January 1970, Life reported, “Scientists have solid experimental and theoretical evidence to support…the following predictions: In a decade, urban dwellers will have to wear gas masks to survive air pollution…by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half….” What happened in '70? Nixon signed the Clean Air Law. 3 years earlier, Raygun signed Calif's law. This is what happens in countries which, until recently, didn't have laws like that.

Actually what happens is that algae expands in rivers and saturates the water with oxygen. More fish. Which is why there is more life in Long Island Sound than any body of water on the planet. Wrong! Algae blooms cause hypoxic conditions (low O2) and dead zones. It's a well known fact that dead zones are growing in size around the world. oceanservice.noaa.gov

Harvard biologist George Wald estimated that “civilization will end within 15 or 30 years unless immediate action is taken against problems facing mankind.” Immediate action was taken by environmental protection agencies around the world. This is thanks to pressure on governments from NGO's and public pressure.

Ecologist Kenneth Watt told Time that, “At the present rate of nitrogen buildup, it’s only a matter of time before light will be filtered out of the atmosphere and none of our land will be usable.” Who is Ken Watt and who cares what he said? He was a lawyer and a professor emeritus. Yawn.
