QP does not build one big MS file but spreads them 255 for directory like all non-metastock programs.

Try Reuters Trend Data Link (call equis) for $30+ for stocks and indices, it manages all your errors too.

DT...I use SC with Q+. I run the Q+ scanning program to do a weed on all 12,000+ stocks then output those into MS dirs which I then run ChartScanner on. Results in my case: 5 MS dirs which requires 5 separate windows in one workspace. Beats 40 different MS dirs <G>. Weeding is easy with Q+, do a price range, avg. vol., and a sharesout range and I end up with around 1000 or so tickers....
