China plans to simplify Gold trade policy

China will implement a new policy aiming at simplifying the import and export of gold, the People’s Bank of China said

The new policy will allow companies that have “frequent imports and exports” of gold to apply for a single permit that can be used for up to 12 shipments, it said in a statement.

Previously, importers/exporters have had to apply for a new permit for every shipment of metal.

A trial of the new policy, which will start on June 1, will apply to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Nanjing and Shenzhen.

China, the world’s biggest consumer and producer of gold, rolled out a new yuan-denominated gold pricing fix last month as it seeks to establish greater influence in international commodities pricing. -
