Hmmm...I'm not sure. All I know is my CPA explained to me in 1996 that I could not count some late trades on Dec 30/31 as deductions for tax-loss purposes, thanks to IRS bureaucratic technicalities differentiatiing between "settlement" dates and transaction dates of stock trades. Therefore, I wasn't allowed to include a final $14.5G or so for my deductions. Maybe I need to kick him in the ass.

I know IRS policies change in many intricate ways from year to year.
